Senior_Present6.jpgThis holiday season, many White Rock seniors who are alone and living in care facilities will receive some holiday cheer thanks to the 6th Annual Be a Santa to a Senior® program. Sponsored by the local Home Instead Senior Care® office, the program brings together area nonprofits, retailers, volunteers and members of the community to provide gifts and companionship for lonely and isolated seniors.

“We are looking forward to participating in the BASTAS program again this year. It’s a wonderful way to give back to our community and bring back the true meaning of the holidays for seniors who need support the most,” says Wes Colby, Owner of the Home Instead Senior Care office serving the White Rock area. “Everyone involved is very supportive of the program, and our ‘Santa Elves’ are often moved to tears when they meet the seniors with a big box of gifts from Santa.”

For the sixth year in a row, the Be a Santa to a Senior Program is sponsored by these generous non-profit partners:
  • Senior's Come Share Society
  • Peach Arch Manor
  • Langley Senior Resources Society
  • Public Guardian
  • Delta Assist

In addition to the partners above, U-Haul in Delta has generously donated packing boxes to facilitate the delivery of gifts to seniors.

Participating retail locations will display Be a Santa to a Senior Christmas trees from November 12 to December 5 that feature ornaments with seniors’ first names and their gift requests. Holiday shoppers can pick ornaments from the trees, buy the items listed and return them unwrapped (and with the ornament attached) to the store.

Be a Santa to a Senior trees will be set up at the following locations:
  • Shoppers Home Health Care,  15182 North Bluff Road, White Rock
  • Shoppers Home Health Care, 12080 Nordel Way, Surrey
  • Vancity - Langley Community Branch, #100 - 20055 Willowbrook Dr. Langley
  • Vancity - Semiahmoo Community Branch, #104 - 1790 - 152nd Street, Surrey
  • Vancity - Semiahmoo Community Branch, 1215 56th Street, Tsawwassen

Program partners and volunteers will wrap and distribute the gifts to local seniors who might otherwise spend the holiday alone. In addition, Home Instead Caregivers volunteer to be ‘Elves’ and deliver the Santa gifts.
