For the 12th year in a row, Home Instead Etobicoke has won the Reader's Choice award for Best In-Home Senior Care.

Home Instead specializes in clients living with Alzheimer's and other dementias, as well as palliative hospice care.
Employees of Home Instead are referred to as CAREGivers and come from all walks of life.
Enright emphasizes the importance of understanding the CAREGivers role is integral to CAREGiver success. “We feel strongly to have happy clients and happy families we need to have happy CAREGivers,” she says, adding “everything we do, execute, plan. we try to do through the lens of the CAREGiver and how that would be perceived by the CAREGiver.”
Each CAREGiver goes through three components of on-board training. These include: Safe CAREGiver, Safe Client, Building Relationships, and Bringing the Senior Experience into Real life.
In addition to the on-board training, other training sessions are offered to CAREGivers such as hospice/palliative care training, fall prevention training, mental health, and first aid.
Alzheimer's and other dementias is a priority training session offered, and has been developed with several entities including The Mayo Clinic. '"Training is very important to us” Enright says.
Safety has always been a top priority for Home Instead, but it has been even more so in the past few months due to COVlD-19.
I have a very hands-on approach to the service we are providing in our community,“ Enright says, acknowledging that immediately on Thursday, March 12 Home Instead implemented a task force whereby every call that came in regarding any sort of illness was managed personally by the office.
Enright says it was important to ensure the safety of our CAREGivers and the safety of our clients.
Enright knew of every case of possible illness as the owner as did the task force, so both could ensure the utmost safety.
"We're so conscientious in the way we deliver care, whether it's a pandemic or not, we have a system in place to ensure a good experience is had by our CAREGivers, our clients and their families,” Enright says.
As frontline heroes, Enright says Home Instead did everything in its power to keep CAREGiver spirits lifted. “You can't pour from an empty cup, so what we tried to do was constantly fill that cup in different ways,” Enright says, through recognition, praise and appreciation.
Home Instead had a pandemic plan before COVID-19, which was immensely helpful during the beginning and continues to develop and grow with each lived in experience.
Enright guarantees “the use of strict protocols such as PPE. ensuring our CAREGivers are fully trained and aware of all COVlD-19 procedures and other safety measures.” As a result, Enright is pleased to say there have not been any significant problems due to their swift and constant action.
Enright is very proud of the Home Instead CAREGivers insisting “they really lead their work with a servant's heart,” adding “it's so profound what they can do with clients.”
