Ottawa, ON – February 10, 2015 – Home Instead Senior Care is thrilled to announce that the first Hilarity for Charity grant has been awarded to a family in Ottawa and Home Instead Senior Care will be providing the care.
A local family who has been faced with health challenges and financial struggles, will now get some much needed support as recipients of the Hilarity for Charity Alzheimer’s and Dementia Relief Care Grant program. Since being diagnosed with a urinary tract infection and hospitalized in March 2013, an elderly Kanata woman’s health has been quickly degrading and she sadly now requires around the clock caregiving services and supervision. The state of her health has also taken a toll on her family, particularly her daughter who takes care of her. Tragically, the mother’s condition worsened in November 2013 and she has now lost all mobility, the ability to speak, and is on a feeding tube. As you can imagine, she requires constant attention and supervision, which has literally become a full-time job for her daughter. Since only her husband is employed, it is not financially viable for them to hire a full-time caregiver.
To get some much needed help, the daughter applied to the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Relief Care Grant program, an initiative by Hilarity for Charity and Home Instead Senior Care, and has been awarded 25 hours of free in-home respite care, which will be provided by professional caregivers from Home Instead Senior Care.
We hope that this is the first of many grants to be provided in Ottawa, so please continue to spread the word and encourage those in need to apply for a grant.
