"It has been a year since our mother died and we still think fondly of her caregiving team at Home Instead Victoria. We are forever grateful for the care and love they gave to our mother. Victoria was her home but we her family are spread across Canada. Our mother had dementia that got worse as the years went by. It was very important to her that she stay in her own home. With the help of her caregivers from Home Instead we were able to honour her request until five weeks before she died. By that time the dementia was so bad that our mother had to go into a retirement home with a memory care unit. The Home Instead team were our mother’s Victoria family. Someone was with her for part of every day. The team made and took our mother to her appointments, took care of all her everyday personal and household needs, and included outings in the daily schedule. They gave her never-ending love and care. As we were not in Victoria to monitor our mother or her care we encouraged her caregivers to make everyday decisions on her behalf. We trusted them implicitly and maintained regular contact with them. Please understand that our mother could be a difficult lady to handle. Our Home Instead caregivers were creative in their approach and managed to weather the bad moments and enjoy the good. Our mother would say to them she was “A Lucky Lady”. And so she was. And we her family were a “Lucky Family”. The Home Instead caregivers and office staff gave us comfort and peace of mind. We highly recommend Home Instead Victoria’s caregiving services."
"We are grateful for the opportunity to develop relatively long-term relationships with individual caregivers and office management and staff. Home Instead is a business of course, but with a human face - and a willingness, in our experience, to be as accommodating as possible."
"Alistair - I've thought of you, and your agency often, as I remember my mum, and especially at this time of year, the 2nd anniversary of her death. You and your workers were such a blessing to my mum, and to me too. I found it so hard to be far away from her as her health declined. When she would phone me, in a panic about some desperate need, I never knew just what to do - but always felt supported when I'd phone your agency. Their calm voice, and willingness to find someone to help were amazing, time after time. Dianna, especially as others distanced themselves, became my mum's closest friend. A hard job for a careworker, but so appreciated."
