GIVE65, a program of Home Instead Senior Care Foundation of Canada, is the first and only online crowd -fundraising platform exclusively devoted to raising funds and awareness for programs and services that give seniors hope.
It can be challenging to raise funds for program and services that help seniors in need. In the philanthropic worlds seniors are often overlooked and registered charities are under funded. At Home Instead Senior Care Foundation of Canada, we believe we can inspire greater charitable giving in support of seniors when we work together with charities who share this com mission. By working together, we can increase social awareness and the capacity of charitable organisations to care for the growing senior population - ultimately helping even more seniors in need.
The signature program of GIVE65 is the GIVE65 Event, a 65-hour, online giving event in July that inspires communities to come together and donate in support of seniors. Home Instead Senior Care Foundation of Canada provides matching grants and bonus grants to incentivize donors to give and to recognize the outstanding results of the participating registered charities. This year's GIVE65 Event is July 10 -12 and Home Instead Senior Care has chosen to support ESS Support Services to raise funds for a much-needed venue.
The Alderwood Adult Day Program run by ESS Support Services, a home-like space supports the health and daily living needs of adults and seniors living with a cognitive and/or physical impairment.
This program is a welcoming, inclusive and comfortable space where individuals living with a cognitive impairment are free to be themselves and are treated with respect and dignity. Care and support are provided by staff and volunteers, along with meaningful dementia-friendly social, recreational and therapeutic activities focused on engagement, well-being and quality of life. Our Adult Day Program also supports informal caregivers by enabling them to receive respite from core giving responsibilities.
The goal is to raise $20,000 to enhance the safety, comfort and therapeutic programming offered in our program. On an annual basis, over 70 seniors attend our program totaling 3,273days of attendance in the program. Open Monday to Friday, the program welcomes approximately 16-20 people each day. In addition to staff who lead the program, our Adult Day Program is supported by volunteers who help with meals as well as activities.
The program is a special place and a much-needed community resource and source of support for caregivers and adults and seniors living with a cognitive and/or physical impairment.
