My loved one needs Medical Care, now what?

As we age, things change. The inevitable aging process sometimes includes new health challenges that a senior never anticipates. One of the things that changes is our need for support from others. The tasks that were once simple, now are more challenging. As our bodies age, there are new challenges such as how to safely shower, how to get to appointments and how to manage our own medications. The medications bottles seem to be becoming more challenging to open. A client who I met with this week also mentioned “Are they making the writing smaller on the bottle?”. These changes make it challenging to do our normal daily tasks to stay independent in our homes! Not to mention, there are often medical challenges which come with aging. Strokes, Atrial Fibrillation or Type 2 Diabetes can cause serious health challenges and increase morbidity.  Approximately one quarter of seniors age 65 and older have diabetes!  Some simple things can promote health or reduce a senior’s risk for these diseases. It can be specialized medications, proper wound care, Intravenous therapy, Professional Foot Care, Diabetes management or just figuring out what that doctor is saying at your appointment and how to remember what you’re supposed to do next! These new challenges are complex, new and often scary.

Home Instead recognizes there is this need and that seniors need help with their non-medical needs, but also their medical needs. We are proud to announce that Home Instead is now offering Medical Care! This is so exciting because we will now be able to provide high quality, personalized medical care that is customized to your loved ones needs and preferences. Gone are the days of a new nurse every day and just being a number. The choice of receiving personalized medical care at home will give your senior loved one the hope of returning home or staying in their home rather than the hospital. As we all know, home is where we are comfortable and where we want to age. Studies show that 91% of seniors surveyed want to remain in their home. The combination of Non- Medical and Medical care that Home Instead provides will allow those clients to stay at home who would otherwise have to move to a higher level of care.

Our mobile solutions to seniors needs range from as simple as Cooking and Cleaning, and Bathing to Professional Foot Care by an Advanced Trained Nurse, Medication Management, Intravenous Therapy, Wound Care and Diabetic Management. Our fully personalized care plans allow you to stay in control of how you and your loved one receives care. Do you prefer mornings for your personal care or evenings? These are normal questions where we will assess how to make the best schedule possible for your loved one.

Your loved one has a bed. It’s in their home. They need the care, support and love to stay in that bed. Let our Trained Professionals provide that support to keep them safe and as independent as possible while we help you manage their needs.
