  • You are more emotional than usual. As your parent’s health declines, you may grieve or feel despair. Without intervention, you may become depressed, which is a real risk for all caregivers.
  • You are always tired and cannot get much sleep. Your sleep patterns can be affected during the course of caring for your loved one.
  • You have more colds or get sick more frequently. The strain of day-to-day will wreak havoc on your immune system unless you take time out for yourself.
  • You gained (or lost) weight. When you neglect your health, your eating patterns are one of the first items to go awry. It is vital to maintain your nutrition to perform your duties.
  • You lose the motivation to accomplish things, including your dreams. When you are always “on,” it is hard to stay motivated to read or perform other mental tasks.
