Lakelyn Hogan, gerontologist and caregiver advocate, was recently featured on Hallmark's Home and Family. During the segment, Lakelyn talked about Home Instead Senior Care's public education campaign, UnRetire Yourself℠.
Post-retirement years are often filled with things that we've been meaning to do for ages such as traveling, visiting friends and grandchildren, and pursuing hobbies. But many times people who retire long for the routine of a job and the fulfillment of a career. UnRetire Yourself encourages retirees to combine their passions and experience to identify fulfilling post-retirement employment, including the consideration of caregiving. This campaign is full of tips and resources for getting back to work along with compelling stories of the unretired.
Providing insight into the changing post-retirement landscape, a new survey by Home Instead, Inc. revealed that more than half (53 percent) of workers approaching retirement in the next five years believe they will likely return to work."Today, more aging men and women are redefining what their next chapter looks like, seeking out new career opportunities that serve their skills, passions and life goals," said Jeff Huber, president and CEO of Home Instead, Inc. "We are seeing the desire among seniors for a second career to not just fulfill a monetary need, but as a source of personal fulfillment later in life. In fact, many of our own professional caregivers are seniors themselves." "Whether you are looking for an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others, share your expertise, network or create something new, our hope is the career assessment tool at UnRetireYourself.ca will help spark ideas and conversation around what a rewarding next chapter could look like," explained Huber.Families can find additional program resources and information at
