CAREGivers Meeting Mar 8th, 2018CG_Meeting_March1.jpg

Our first caregiver meeting of 2018 was held last week and there couldn't have been a better time. With the weather opening up a little, and new additions to our caregiver team, it was the right time for the Home Instead (Burnaby and South Vancouver) family to come together!

The meeting began with the team socializing over light snacks and fun conversations – as team members got the benefit of knowing their colleagues better, including interesting tidbits that would otherwise be missed.

Designed to test the familiarity of the members of Team Home Instead with each other this prize based endeavor had the creative and competitive juices of the members flowing! Passion and energy filled the atmosphere as participants thronged to different parts of the meeting room to discover those hidden snippets about their peers that would get them to victory. After several heated, tense minutes, we had two victors – Jacob and Sawa!!

The team had an effective session going over some of the more difficult client experiences the team members had had in this recent quarter. As an example, the challenges of dealing with senior clients who also struggle with alcoholism. Virginia, Jay, Sawa and Shivani shared their experiences and insights on effectively tackling situations such as these.

Sawa shared her experiences with another difficult client situation, where the progression of dementia made a client suspicious of nearly everyone, including her regular caregivers. Alaina also shared on this topic with her prior experience as a dementia educator.

Shelley and Harry shared some experiences in dealing with clients with disjointed families, where everyone pretended they wanted to help but the reality was quite different. The approach of keeping it professional and focused on care for the senior client was acknowledged by the team.
