"We turned to Brent and Lynn's services after my Mom was assessed
as "palliative care" eligible, but she fell into a huge gap in the
Alberta Health Care system. We did not feel she would be a good fit for the
Alberta Health Services palliative units (she was still able to walk, eat and
dress herself with some assistance), and Alberta Home Care Services didn't come
anywhere close to providing what she needed.
Home Instead was able to step in with extremely short notice and provide care
that was equal to and surpassed what we as a family had been providing, which
was a great stress reliever at this difficult time.
Brent, Lynn and their caring staff helped us keep Mom in her home until the
last three weeks of her life when we decided it would be best to move her to
palliative. They were incredibly caring and supportive on that final day as we
prepared Mom to leave her home of 60 years.
The care that Mom received with Alberta Health Services in palliative care
lacked dignity, comfort and love, and was a shock and disappointment after the
fantastic person-centered service we had been able to achieve with Home
Instead. In hind sight, knowing the struggle and arguments we went through with
palliative care, keeping Mom at home with the help of the Home Instead team,
would perhaps have been the better choice.
The work that Brent, Lynn and their team do is a life saver for a family. Entrusting
someone else with a loved one's care was a tall order for me, however, I am
able to say that because of them I was able to spend quality, loving time with
my mom in her final months. Priceless! Thank you!" - Sandi H, November 2017 ★★★★★
A majority of seniors want the freedom to remain in their homes as they age. Home Care allows Wetaskiwin seniors to remain in their home, with some help. To accomplish this, many family members take on the role of caregiver to provide their elderly loved ones a safe environment and forgo the costs of assisted living facilities.
However, the amount of time that’s required to provide that high level of care can have a negative impact on family caregivers. Home Instead Senior Care® is here to help. Home Instead CAREGiversSM are bonded and trained to provide the highest level of compassionate, quality care. Home care can relieve some of the strains off of Wetaskiwin family members that are caring for an elderly family member.
Home Instead Senior Care services encompasses a lot of different factors and can include as little or as much aide as needed. Some Wetaskiwin families may opt for it to include personal care, such as bathing, brushing hair and teeth and helping to use the bathroom. While others may need medicines distributed at certain times, assistance walking, going up stairs and general help with mobility. Another service that home care provides is running errands, buying groceries, cooking, cleaning and walking pets. These can often be overlooked during difficult times but are especially important to provide a calm, clean, upbeat environment. An often undisclosed benefit of home care is giving a family member a break to take care of their own lives and to give the senior a form of companionship, someone to talk with, read with, share stories with and just have a person present to help prevent loneliness and guilt of being a burden to one’s family. Home Instead Senior Care services include:
