Avegail Porcalla

HR Manager

With over 10 years of experience in the Healthcare Industry, My role in the company is to seek out high-quality candidates who can meet the diverse care needs of our clients, and to make sure each Care Professional feels fully trained and confident before their very first shift. It’s a meaningful role because I get to learn, teach, and help our Care Pros feel truly prepared to provide exceptional care.

One of the things I love most about my job is getting to know people personally — hearing their stories, learning about their experiences and discovering how they can become a wonderful fit for our team.

Outside of work, my family and I enjoy discovering new places to eat and being part of our local church choir.

Stephanie Gardner

Community Partnership Manager

Originally from New Brunswick, I bring 20 years of experience in medical administration, my job at Home Instead is to educate groups and organizations in Leduc, Camrose, Wetaskiwin, Stony Plain, Spruce grove and surrounding areas about the importance of what Home Instead can offer.
Having watched my own grandparents require home care — and seeing my family struggle and experience burnout — I developed a deep appreciation for accessible, compassionate support services. It means a lot to me to see this kind of care available, and it fuels my passion for helping others find the help they need.
Away from work, you can usually find me hiking with my dog River or spending quality time with my family.

Andrea Niwa

Scheduling and Engagement coordinator

My name is Andrea, and I am the Scheduling and Engagement Coordinator at Home Instead. My love for helping and caring for people began when I was very young. At just 13 years old, my grandmother became terminally ill, and I started helping her by doing her nails, hair, and makeup. Seeing her smile each day filled my heart with warmth and sparked a lifelong passion for caring for others.
That experience inspired me to begin my career in the beauty industry. After college, I was fortunate to work with cancer survivors, seniors, the homeless population, and people from all walks of life, helping them feel beautiful and confident in their own skin. My energetic yet calming demeanor naturally led me into various administrative roles, where I discovered another way to support and uplift others.
After having my children, I transitioned into the healthcare field, working in sports injury clinics and diagnostic imaging. Whether it was booking client appointments, handling medical billing, coordinating doctors’ schedules, or supporting patients through difficult times, I found deep joy in being a steady, compassionate presence behind the scenes.
Today, at Home Instead, I truly love what I do. My role allows me to make a difference in the lives of both our Care Professionals and the families we servecreating meaningful, lasting connections that go beyond scheduling and logistics. What makes my job so rewarding is knowing that, in my own way, I’m helping build relationships that bring comfort, dignity, and joy to those who need it most.
When I’m not working, I’m usually off on an adventure with my family and our dogs, spending time with loved ones, doing Pilates, gardening, or baking.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with my family. We love going camping and creating lasting memories together in the outdoors.
