Alice McCarron

Alice McCarron

Owner & President

Alice is the owner and president of Home Instead Senior Care Halifax , a locally owned and operated business dedicated to helping older adults live safely and comfortably at home. Born and raised on a farm in Antigonish, Nova Scotia , Alice moved to Halifax in 1999 to build her career and has proudly called the city home ever since. With more than 26 years of experience working in-and providing counsel to-health care and senior care companies, Alice oversees every aspect of the business, ensuring clients and their families receive the highest standard of service. Her family also owns and operates assisted living facilities in Antigonish. Deeply committed to her community, Alice is a shareholder and board member of Chebucto Pockwock Lake Wind Field Limited and served on committees for the IWK Health Foundation, Saint Mary's University, and Thyroid Cancer Care Nova Scotia. She has also served on the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Nature, the Board of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, and the Halifax Chamber of Commerce's Provincial Affairs Policy Committee. Alice holds a BBA from St. Francis Xavier University and an MBA from Saint Mary's University.

Brittany Keough Misener

Director, Service & Engagement

As the Director of Service & Engagement, Brittany plays a key role in connecting with families and community members through Public Education Programs, highlighting how the Home Instead Senior Care team can deliver personalized home care solutions. She is also responsible for strengthening and maintaining relationships with both new and existing referral sources. Brittany is deeply committed to a collaborative approach to care and takes great pride in the expertise she has developed since joining Home Instead in June 2015. She is passionate about ensuring that clients receive the highest quality care. Brittany serves on the board of directors for both Caregivers Nova Scotia and Serving Seniors Alliance. She holds a Certificate in Human Resource Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Saint Mary's University. Her personal experience with her grandfather's Alzheimer's disease profoundly shaped her understanding of the importance of professional care and support. Outside of work, Brittany enjoys spending time with her son, daughter, husband, and extended family. She enjoys taking yoga and barre classes, relaxing at her cottage, traveling, and walking her miniature dachshund, Enso. ​ [email protected] ​

Tammy Lovett

Director of Client Care

Before moving to Nova Scotia in 2000 with her twin sister, Tammy attended Concordia University and majored in Sociology, though, Tammy was always drawn towards Gerontology. Once Tammy came to this realization, that her passion was to care to the elderly, she pursued a career in nursing and has worked as an LPN since 2003. Prior to working with Home Instead, Tammy worked in Long Term Care and then in the community with the VON. Tammy is excited to bring her knowledge and skills she's gained in her past roles to the team at Home Instead and she is glad she can continue with her nursing experience to make a difference in our clients lives. She is passionate about fulfilling client's needs so they can remain independent in their homes for as long as possible. When Tammy isn't working, she enjoys reading, cooking and spending time outdoors with her son, daughter and husband.

Client Care Coordinator

Nicole attended Nova Scotia Community College Kingstec Campus with certification from the Continuing Care Assistant Program in 2014. Nicole has 6 years' experience caring for seniors in nursing homes and homecare. Nicole is passionate about making sure seniors and CAREGivers have the best experience as possible with Home Instead. When Nicole is not working, she enjoys camping, being active outside, baking, and spending time with her family.

Alyssa Ewing

Service Manager

Alyssa holds a degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies from Brock University, with a major in Outdoor Recreation and a minor in History. She began her career with Home Instead five years ago as a Service Coordinator and has since grown into the role of Service Manager. Passionate about supporting seniors and their families, Alyssa enjoys building meaningful connections and ensuring quality care. Outside of work, she loves spending time outdoors and with her dog Mendez.

Riya moved to Canada in December 2019 to purse a diploma in pre-health science. During Riya's studies, she also gained her Social Service Worker diploma. Riya worked in Toronto as a caregiver and a social worker for various healthcare companies. While working in healthcare, Riya became passionate about improving aging adults' quality of life. Once she relocated to Halifax in September 2023, she started working for Home Instead. When Riya is not working, she loves to dance, swim, and go out with her friends. Riya loves to meet new people and try new things. Riya also spends her time talking to her parents and enjoys making them proud.

Shida Najafi

Human Resources Coordinator

Shida moved to Canada in September 2022 to pursue a master's degree in English. Shida also holds a master's in business administration from her home country. With years of experience in human resources and office administration, she has developed a strong passion for helping others, especially the elderly. Joining Home Instead has allowed her to fulfill this passion and make a meaningful impact. Outside of work, Shida enjoys hiking, paddling, and playing basketball. Shida is a member of a dance team, who perform various dancing styles at different events in Halifax.

Stephanie Heighton

Stephanie Heighton

Accounting Manager

As the Accounting Manager, Stephanie aims to provide prompt and accurate financial reporting for our Clients, CAREGivers, as well as the Management Team. Her previous accounting experience has been in residential and commercial construction, residential/commercial leasing, and home care. When not at work, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 boys (usually in a hockey rink!).
