"My mom is a senior living independently in a small town. When she broke her hip, I called from the hospital looking for private care on an urgent basis. Home Instead was responsive and empathetic and quickly mobilized a Personal Support Worker Bola to help my mom with recovery. We are all so grateful."
"Our relationship with Home Instead began at the beginning of June. My mother-in-law having reached the advanced age of 97, became bedbound at the residence she resided in. She also had the misfortune of becoming blind a few months before that. Without being able to go to the dining room and thereby getting assistance from her table mates, she was unable to feed herself. Her PSWs were able to give her breakfast and I was able to give her lunch. For dinner, we turned to Home Instead and they were amazing!
Of immense importance was the fact that Amelia only assigned three ladies to Margaret for the entirety of the four months. For a newly blind senior, personnel consistency is crucial for giving the feeling of comfort and security.
The three women involved, Tsedenia, Hayley, and Rahan were angels for all of us from the start. They were gentle and patient. They held Margaret’s hand as much as she needed them to. They made it a point to get to know Margaret and did everything they could to entice Margaret to eat and drink her nutrition, even making trips to the dining room to seek alternate choices. They even put on her music and sang along. Their shifts were two hours long so they never made Margaret feel rushed. The first thing she asked me when I arrived at lunchtime was: “Is my lady coming to help me with dinner?” She enjoyed their company very much.
Tsedenia, Hayley, Rahan, and I wrote daily notes to each other. In them, we noted what Margaret ate and drank, what they did, and what they worried about. We all knew when Margaret stopped wanting ice cream, she was in a decline.
Margaret passed away peacefully on September 10th, her son, myself and my daughter held her hands and told her for the hundredth time how much we loved her.
An enormous thank you, beautiful ladies, for helping to make “G’ma’s” final months the best they could be. She loved you all."
"We have had a wonderful experience with Home Instead. After breaking my femur and landing in a rehab hospital for three months, I found myself needing more night time support on the weekend. Christiana came to my rescue and was very helpful. She offered the additional support I needed to feel comfortable and get some much needed rest. "Home Instead provided amazing service and companionship for my Mom who suffers from dementia after she took a fall and had to be hospitalized. All of the caregivers, but especially Amanda Vickery, were awesome! Amanda and the rest of the team were kind, compassionate and very caring. It gave us so much peace of mind to know that when we weren't able to be with our Mom, she was still getting the care and companionship that she needed. The team was quick to respond to all of our requests for a caregiver, even when the request was made the day we wanted to arrange services. A very big thank you to all of the Home Instead team!!"

"What a great service this organization is! My mother had taken a fall at her retirement home. She was very confused. After her fall I would spend the night there and the day there! She needed help until she was stable. The head nurse recommended Home Instead. It was a life saver. They had someone available right away! I was able to go home at night and have great sense that she was not alone! I would highly recommend Harriet- she went far beyond what I expected! One of the nights my mom was rushed to the hospital and Harriet actually went in the ambulance with my mother and waited at the hospital until a family member arrived."

Home Instead stepped up and helped with having someone stay at night with my parents on very short notice!! Exceptional response time and great caregivers that took their time to make my Dad comfortable when he needed them. "Really, really happy with the service. I called them in a terrible state and crying while I was overwhelmed by being my Mom’s full-time care giver. The client care coordinator, Wendy, came over SAME DAY and she was truly incredible. I was worried about how she might phrase some things when meeting my Mom (as she is triggered by mention of her dementia), but it went so beautifully. Wendy was so tactful and gentle with my Mom, and then she set us up with services immediately! Then she was available consistently anytime we needed her. I could email or call her at any time and she would be there. She called us several times throughout our time using the services to check in and make sure everything was okay. She even came in person to check in sometimes as well. It was an entirely new level of dedication that I was not expecting. There is a MASSIVE difference between Home Instead care and the OHIP covered home care. The quality of care is significantly better with Home Instead and the schedule is consistent and reliable, which was really important since I was balancing my own life responsibilities plus my Mom’s care. Most incredibly, Home Instead has the option to take the person who needs care out to do social things, to appointments, to exercise, and just to have fun. This was also an extremely important aspect of my Mom’s care as she is relatively young and still has a lot of energy. We were very lucky to have an incredible care giver, Rochelle, who was exactly what my Mom needed. She is passionate, energetic, fun, engaging, and enthusiastic. It is so essential to be enthusiastic when you are caring for another human, and I have not yet seen the same dedication from OHIP covered home care at all. She did so many things with my Mom and provided her a wonderful companionship, which enriched her life drastically. Rochelle went above and beyond my expectations. We were also lucky to have another care giver a few times, Bess, who was also enthusiastic, energetic, and fun! She has a captivating personality that was able to keep my Mom entertained and active! It is hard to watch someone you love going through a system where they aren’t valued, but I did not feel that at all with Home Instead. I strongly felt supported and that my Mom was receiving excellent care. I give Home Instead 5/5 stars and I highly recommend them if you are looking for high quality, reliable care."

"Amazing service provided by Home Instead! After a sudden and unexpected emergency, Home Instead was able to accommodate , setting up services in less than 12h, despite being a new client. My mother required evening and overnight care, and we were unable to determine exactly how long we would need the service. Catherine, the office administrators, was so accommodating, ensuring the appropriate coverage was available and modified based on my mom’s preferences (thanks Cat for all your patience, hard work, and support during this stressful time). Catherine would ensure that I was kept up to date with all changes and arrangements being made, despite my being out of town. I would also like to mention one of the caregivers, Hellen, who was so supportive and made significant efforts to connect with my mom and make her feel safe during this stressful time."

"We are so very thankful we found HOME INSTEAD. Wendy met with my Father within one day to assess his urgent requirements following a hospital admission. Wendy listened to his needs and discussed with him all caregiving options to meet his concerns and the importance of matching caregivers to the client. This was an important step in Fathet being treated with respect and to feel valued in the decision of his care. As we were receiving care from the (then) current company, Wendy aligned more immediate care to provide family with a much-needed break from what had been 24/7 care. Lise and Catherine both made the transition seamless - Cat offers her top-rate experience and valuable strategies in planning the shifts and times that work best for Father who lives in his own home. The caregivers have all been new to us - George has our highest respect and is a gentleman offering a gentle, guiding voice and reassurance that he is there and permits Father to make his own decisions. It is important for any caregiver to leave their personal agenda at the door, as they say. Kathy has also been covering many of the day shifts and produces lovely meals she prepares offering options for Father to choose his lunch and dinner meal choices to suit his preferences and heart-healthy meal requirements. It has just been 3 weeks on board, and we have made the choice to entrust our loved one to Home Instead. We are constantly impressed and in awe of how much higher a standard they expect from their caregivers. Their training and attention to detail thus far have been a cut above the rest."

"We are so grateful for the help of Home Instead! It allowed my sister Jan who lives alone to recover from her long awaited and needed hip replacement surgery. Initially the plan was to ask friends and family to assist, but we soon realized that would not be a reliable solution. Wendy met us within a day and assessed Jan's needs and telling us about how Home Instead could help her recover after the surgery. It was all well laid out and clearly explained. And so thoughtful of Wendy to send flowers and well wishes after the surgery. Thank you Wendy. Cat had had two caregivers arranged within a day or two, much appreciated. Ola was much appreciated by Jan, Ola got to know Jan's needs and habits and was always there to help. They developed quite a rapport between themselves, which is what Home is truly about. "Home Instead were quick to send a PSW to assist my mom. My mom really enjoyed her time with PSW Omolara. Home Instead were very flexible when we needed to revise the schedule and very accommodating when we went from full days to half days. "Our Mother is 98, legally blind, and lives alone. We have been using Caregivers from home instead for at least three years now. Sharon, Maraya, and Carter have all been wonderful Companions for our Mom, while doing little chores and giving her dinner each evening. They have all been extremely flexible if we needed any changes in timing or schedule. The administrative staff, especially Cat and. Lisa have always been very accommodating. We just met Wendy , the new Client Care Coordinator who is also a lovely person."
"I was discharged from hospital early following surgery for a fractured hip. My daughter came from Vancouver to help me. She was very concerned about leaving me and the help I needed at home. Services were quickly set up. We were both pleased that the two home support workers came the week before with their co-ordinator to meet me. Kathy and Marta came daily for the first week making my breakfast; helping with personal care; doing some light housecleaning and making my lunch when needed. As I improved the service was reduced. Now I feel I can manage. Thank you Kathy and Marta. You got me on the road to recovery."

"The staff from Home Instead are quick to respond, provide compassionate care and are very resourceful in their interactions with my mother , who is 100 years old. At first, the staff was also providing services to my dad, who was 100 years old as well, but he passed away in early September. All of the staffers we've met are very trustworthy and reliable , including Louise, Mounira, and Tiblets. We have not met Kehinde and Ugochi but have received no complaints.
