Home Instead Care Professional of the Year Award
Saskatoon Home Instead is delighted to announce the 2023 Care Professional of the year, Mary-Lynn Miller!
Drawing on many years of experience as an educational assistant, Mary-Lynn wrote in her Home Instead application that, having cared for children with special needs she thought she would enjoy serving aging adults “because they are interesting.” We have learned that Mary-Lynn meant this with all her heart!
It was quickly apparent that her natural curiosity and unassuming way would allow her to make connections with the older adults she serves. She is attentive, asks great questions, and engages a client by inviting them to share their expertise, teaching her about those things which matter most to them.
Perhaps you have met this kind of person: someone who, despite how busy they are or how much noise and distraction may be happening in the room, when they say, “I’d like to get to know you” they genuinely mean it and their actions consistently show their intent. Through seeking to know others, listening attentively and remembering what matters to others, Mary-Lynn’s superpower is in building strong relationships with her elderly clients and their families.
We have enjoyed getting to know Mary-Lynn as someone who has risen above her previous circumstances, is always positive and grateful. She is quick with a quip and gets to the heart of a topic or situation with clarity and focus. She is a cheerleader for her daughters and a champion of ensuring excellent care for Home Instead clients. Mary-Lynn is an advocate and a team player with her coworkers.
Mary-Lynn lives Home Instead’s mission by building trust, taking the lead and sharing her heart. Through constant suggestions about how things could be improved in her client’s care Mary-Lynn has made a huge impact on our clients and their families. We can only imagine what the next several years of her connections and relationships will bring.
