The Home Instead (Burnaby and South Vancouver) team is thrilled to report that its 2020 “BE A SANTA TO A SENIOR” campaign is shaping up tremendously!!

Pandemic restrictions have meant that most seniors at care homes have had little to no visits from loved ones for a long time, and loneliness and depressive feelings have reached worrying levels. Running the “BE A SANTA TO A SENIOR” campaign itself was at risk for 2020 but our team knew that we just had to find a way for the seniors within our community as they needed us now more than ever.

Thanks for the support of our partner London Drugs (Kingsway location) and the very special and affectionate support we got from our little friends at the Chaffey Burke Elementary School (Burnaby), we are well on our way to bringing much needed holiday cheer to over 300 seniors within our community!!

For 2020 apart from arranging holiday gifts for over three hundred seniors as part of the ‘Be a Santa to a Senior’ campaign, we will be including a personalized postcard for each senior, designed specially for them by an elementary school student at the Chaffe Burke School. And their support has not stopped just with postcards, as students have also bought some gifts for seniors, saving money by doing extra chores at home! We are grateful to these students for their thoughtful participation towards this project.

Team Home Instead is proud to be recognized by Burnaby Now for this effort. Such coverage goes a long way in creating awareness about how the holiday season is a lonelier time for isolated seniors within our community and how small, thoughtful gestures from all of us within the community can make a big difference.
