May 2023 CARE PROFESSIONAL OF THE MONTH
We are thrilled to announce our May Care Professional of the Month Award Winner - Lucy! We asked Lucy to tell us a little more about herself and her time here at Home Instead. Read what she had to say below.
Where were you born and where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Nairobi Kenya until I migrated to Canada in 2013 and I have been working with Homestead since October 2019.
What is your favorite part of caregiving?
My favourite part of caregiving is getting to know and bonding with clients and their families who in turn become like an extended family. This makes my work easier, relaxing and very enjoyable. Gaining their trust and being appreciated for what I do means a lot and I am always looking forward to the next visit.
Tell us a little about yourself.
While I have always been a caring, calm and patient person, I thought I would work best with little children and that’s why I trained as a kindergarten teacher back in Kenya and enjoyed my job thereafter; but after my mother was diagnosed with stage four cancer and I fully took charge of caring for her for nine months before she passed away, I realized that I had a passion for senior citizens and I have not looked back since then. It is not always an easy job but with empathy, compassion and commitment I always strive to go above expectations to make the life of seniors more comfortable and enjoyable in their setting.
