Home Instead Markham Story

Ever since he can remember, Jake Mitten’s goal was to run his own business. He was never quite sure what type of business it would be, but one thing was clear - it needed to be something that was focused on helping people. He has always looked up to and had a close relationship with his parents, both of whom have strong ties to the healthcare industry. His dad Tom, a relationship based leader, has spent his 30+ year career working in the pharmaceutical industry. His mom, Tracy, has spent her entire career working as a caring registered nurse. Over the last 10 years specifically she has worked closely with aging adults in the community and in long term care homes. It was with this role where Tracy saw firsthand the challenges families were facing in trying to balance their lives while caring for their senior loved ones.

One thing lead to another, and Jake teamed up with his parents to bring Home Instead Senior Care to the Markham community. The passion and dedication they have towards enhancing the lives of aging adults and their families is what motivates them each and every day. Just know in all your interactions with Home Instead Markham, you will be dealing with a family owned business that is going to treat you and your loved ones with the respect, dignity and care you deserve.

Our founders, Paul and Lori Hogan, launched Home Instead in 1994 to provide care to Paul’s 90-year-old grandmother. Remarkably, after she began receiving personalized, in-home care that allowed her to age safely in the place she loved most – the family home – Grandma Manhart thrived for an additional decade!

That’s why, to us, senior care is personal. We’re passionate about expanding the world’s capacity to care.
