January is Alzheimer's Awareness Month
The most common symptoms are: memory loss that disrupts daily living, difficulty performing tasks, confusion with time and place, difficulties with problem solving as well as trouble understanding visual images or spatial relationships.
Recently, the Government of Canada launched the "Dementia Community Investment Fund". This fund will provide $4 million annually for communities to promote awareness and help facilitate families and caregivers with resources and tools to support people living with dementia. In addition, the Canadian Health Institute is researching new treatments to help improve quality of life for these Canadians.
Everyone who knows someone with Alzheimer's understands the importance of innovative strategies to aid those who are affected, not only does this affect the person living with Alzheimer's but also those who are directly involved in their loved one's care. With 59% of family caregivers saying emotional stress as very high and up to 40% of them report symptoms of depression, this tells us how crucial it is to have assistance.
To help support those who are affected by Alzheimer's, Home Instead Senior Care offers specialized "Person Centered" care. Our caregivers get to know our client personally and help them maximize their independence. We practice patience and compassion, always. We know that families are stressed out and having support is key to reducing stress and helping everyone's well-being.
