One Home Instead Halifax Care Pro has supported a client in her late 90s for more than two and a half years. By learning her routines and anticipating her needs, the Care Pro can provide hands-on help while encouraging her to continue doing what she can independently.

Yes. Our Care Pros provide non-medical support for people living with Parkinson’s disease, arthritis, COPD, heart disease, diabetes, and other ongoing conditions.

A typical visit might include dressing and mobility assistance, meal preparation, medication reminders, transportation, light housekeeping, and companionship. Because Care Pros see clients regularly, they may notice changes in appetite, energy, movement, or routines and communicate those observations to the family and our care team.

The care plan can adapt as the person’s abilities and needs change.

We support families who live elsewhere but have a parent or loved one in HRM or Lunenburg County.

A local Care Pro can help with meals, personal care, transportation, errands, companionship, and everyday routines. Our care team can also stay connected with the family as needs change.

This can be especially helpful when an older adult lives in a rural community, farther from healthcare services, or without family close enough to provide regular hands-on support.

Distance and transportation can make everyday needs more complicated. An older adult may need help getting to appointments, picking up groceries, preparing meals, or simply staying connected to their community.

Because our service area includes both HRM and Lunenburg County, the Halifax Home Instead team can adapt care around where and how someone lives. That might mean transportation and errands as well as personal care, meals, companionship, or regular visits when family members aren’t nearby.

If you’ve been approved for the Home Support Direct Funding Program, funding can be used to purchase approved home support services based on your assessed needs.

Cost depends on the type of support needed, how often care is provided, and the schedule. Someone receiving a few visits each week will have a different care plan from someone needing overnight or around-the-clock assistance.
