CAREGiver of the Month - March 2022

Congratulations, Emelia F., for being our Caregiver of the Month – March 2022!!

Emelia has been a long-standing team member and we are extremely proud to have someone of her talent and professionalism as part of the Home Instead team!! Over the years Emelia’s skills, experience and compassion have helped multiple clients enhance their sense of wellbeing. Her extensive experience, working in nursing homes, really comes to the fore and is extremely beneficial for clients who need that extra bit of support with ADLs, hygiene, and memory care.

Where were you born? Where did you grow up?

I was born in the Philippines in Inabanga Bohol. I grew up in the Philippines in Tagbilaran city alongside my three brothers and three sisters.

How long have you worked at Home Instead?

I have worked at Home Instead for over two years now and am so grateful for all the experiences and skills I have picked up since starting at this company.

What’s your favorite part of being a caregiver?

There are so many things I love about my job. To name a few, the feeling of helping someone and making a difference in their life is an indescribable feeling. I also love meeting and connecting with new people from all around the world, be it my clients or my caregiver colleagues at Home Instead and getting to engage in their stories and histories!!

Any stories about a client that you would like to share?

As we know, the pandemic brought hardship into our lives and restricted us from so many things we used to take for granted. A particular client of mine had not seen her son in nearly 4 months due to Covid. I remember the moment they saw each other for the first time and how warm it made my heart. It made me realize the little pleasures we tend to take for granted and I couldn’t wait to get home that night and hug my kids.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am a mom of four children – my two daughters Kimberly and Michelle, my son Luca, and my Alaskan Malamute husky Kenya! I was a grade school teacher when I was in the Philippines and was drawn to caregiving when I moved to Canada. I enjoy going on hikes looking at beautiful British Columbia viewpoints and love to cook all kinds of food! My guilty pleasure is karaoke.

God bless you, Emelia!
