Every year, throughout the months of May and June, the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada hosts their Walk for Alzheimer’s (also known as the Walk for Memories) and Unforgettable Run in communities all over the country. Home Instead Senior Care is proud to be one of the many businesses sponsoring Canada’s biggest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
On Saturday, June 4th, the Alzheimer’s Society of Peel and over 450 participants and volunteers came out to support the 750,000 Canadians living with this unfortunate condition. We walked (or ran!) 5 kilometers at the beautiful and sunny Lake Promenade Park, in Port Credit, to help raise awareness while staying fit and having fun!
Thanks to your generous donations, we helped the Alzhiemer’s Society of Peel surpass their fundraising goal for this year! Together, we were able to help the community of Peel raise over $69,000! That’s a whopping $9,000 above their target! We want to extend a very big thank you to the Etobicoke and Mississauga Office’s Managing Directors, Greg and Brenda, for donating $1,500! That’s not all, though! Home Instead Senior Care is also very happy to announce that, with your help, we surpassed our office’s fundraising goal too! Congratulations and thank you so much for contributing! This money is going right back into our community to support the growing needs of families living with dementia.
We truly cannot thank you enough. Through the combined sponsorship of Home Instead Senior Care and the efforts of charitable Canadian’s, we have helped to contribute $2.2 million (and counting!) to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, this year alone. Since it’s inception, the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada and people participating in the Walk for Memories have raised hundreds of millions of dollars for truly important research that looks into the causes and potential cure for Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The money raised also directly funds services in communities all over Canada such as: day programs, education, respite care, public awareness, and other extremely important supports that improve the quality of life for people living with all types of dementia.
After the Walk for Alzheimer’s finished, Home Instead Senior Care Etobicoke hosted their Annual CAREGiver Appreciation Day, also at the scenic Lakefront Promenade Park. So many great games were played, super-creative masterpieces were crafted, and lots of pizza was devoured. Our CAREGivers do so much for our seniors and have such an immense, positive impact on their lives. We always want to share with them how much we appreciate everything they do. Check out all the fun they had!
