Home Instead History & Mission
Greg and Karen Charyna
are the owners of Home Instead in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Personal experiences with our own parents inspired us to bring this service to Saskatoon. We understand that some circumstances of aging can be difficult for families and our desire is to help them prepare for the progressive stages of aging conditions and provide a trusted source of home care.
Karen and Greg opened Saskatoon's Home Instead office in 2008. Greg (M.Div., M.Ed.) brings 12 years of experience serving families in churches and Karen (M. Ed.) employs expertise through her previous work as a counselling psychologist. Helping families comes naturally to us.
We have supported our parents through a crippling car accident and two subsequent years of rehabilitation as well as stroke, arthritis, hip replacements and cancer treatment. This work is personal for us - we have experienced the roller coaster of caring for aging parents and know that families can teamwork to help parents remain independent and enjoy quality of life as they age in place.
We place a high priority on serving people with dignity and respect, providing the highest quality of service through a carefully selected and trained staff of compassionate CAREGivers. Karen & Greg appreciate their dedicated Admin team and enjoy working out of the historic Canadian Pacific Train Station on Idylwyld Dr.
We are proud to bring this unique concept of home care to Saskatoon and can be booked for educational presentations. We speak with community and business groups about aging topics, helping adult children care for their parents. Here are a few examples:

More than a Business: A Mission in Life
In the decades since Paul and Lori founded Home Instead, the company has expanded far beyond the city limits of Omaha, Nebraska. We now count more than 45 franchises across Canada and over 1,200 franchise locations globally – but we all share the same mission.
We live the mission with our CAREGivers, our staff and our community by:
- Treating each other with dignity and respect
- Encouraging and supporting each others’ growth
- Building value in our service to others
- Honouring God in all we do
When you choose Home Instead to help your family, you’re partnering with us on our mission to improve the lives of seniors (and their families) everywhere.
