CAREGiver of the Month - June 2021

Congratulations Eileen S on being chosen caregiver of the month for June 2021!

You started with Home Instead end of September 2020 in the middle of the pandemic while already working another job at the Credit Union.  This alone speaks volume to the amazing individual you are.... but there is so much more!   A big example is driving 45 minutes into the city and reliably providing overnight care in one of the worst winters we have had for storms in years.

Just prior to a stormy weekend I was watching the weather, and the news was saying we were in for quite a weekend.  I contacted you to see if I should start looking at replacing some nights and you said you had already been watching the radar and only expected to only get 1-2 cms on Friday and that's nothing, we're from Saskatchewan!

You started right into palliative care with Bernice which allowed her to fulfill her wish of staying home to the very end.  You then went on to provide care for Art and Hazel. Their daughter is a nurse with VERY high standards. Usually, we don't get too much feedback as long as care is going along smoothly.  She called me very excited, and my immediate thought was something must be wrong.  She said that the caregiver from last night – Eileen - is a 10 out of 10! She said I just must tell you what a gem you have there!   She said she knows when Eileen is there, her dad is in good hands, and she feels like she can go home and really sleep.

Your enthusiasm with your client is outstanding. You know when to roll with it and not take things personal and are very quick to make great connections.  Serving Beryl B was full of challenging times as she struggled, but you were able to manage the ups and downs.   Your report was fantastic..." Beryl told me that I have been getting ready on my own for 28 years and don't need any help from you. She made me laugh."

You also have such a way of putting your clients at ease the minute you walk in the door.  I had the pleasure of introducing you to Colleen and MA and things were quite intense when we walked in.

Panic was setting in for MA as Colleen was in so much lower abdominal pain that moving her legs to change her incontinence pad in bed would be impossible. MA, along with friends had been lifting her.  You had such a soft but calming and reassuring way of letting her know ‘you've got this’, and it is going to be just fine.

It feels like there are just so many scenarios that I could just go on and on.  We want you to know how much we appreciate and value your commitment, great communication with the office, and your outstanding ability to connect with so many clients on all different levels. We thank you for all that you do and congratulations.
