Candice joined Home Instead two months into the COVID lockdown of spring 2020.  She applied on March 27 and started with Home Instead on May 12th!  Rare people do this - join an organization to work in the community during a pandemic.  Candice is an exceptional person and we are blessed to have her serving our dear senior clients.  She told us that through her work placement experience with the YWCA she ran into two Home Instead caregivers working at Stonebridge Crossing Care Home.  Way to go team - way to spread the word to Candice about becoming a Home Instead Caregiver!  Candice also has encouraged a few people to apply.

When Candice talked with us about employment, she told us how she shared Home Instead’s values of providing compassionate care and services for seniors, treating them with respect and dignity saying, ‘I desire to bring joy, companionship and whatever help is needed to enhance their quality of life and allow them to remain comfortable in their own homes for as long as possible.’

Serendipitously, life circumstances prepared Candice for this career.  She had spent time with her father-in-law who had Alzheimer’s for seven years and she also served at the bedside of her father and father-in-law at the ends of their lives.  Candice had previously invested in Direct Support Worker training which gave her added confidence and skills to start her work with Home Instead.  When her 25 year career with Sask Power came to an end in 2019, Candice turned to her caregiving skill set to contribute to her community.

Today Candice is awarded CAREGiver of the month for her outstanding care of her clients in recent days.  The truth is that she has conducted herself consistently since she joined us.  Candice is a role model CAREGiver, a leader.  We admire you in many ways:

  • Candice is a leader in how to retire and recreate yourself.
  • She has served 12 clients since May 2020.  Each assignment proved your ability to connect and serve effectively.  Your current two assignments have allowed you to settle into longer term relationships that are making a big impact for people living with dementia.  Thank you for your caring relationships with Edna and Gerald.
  • You make great connections and builds relationships easily.
  • Candice looks for ways to improve quality of life for clients and she pays attention to details. Candice advocates for her clients, initiates routines to get things going for them. She took her 94 year old client to see the light display during the holidays and he loved it.   Great idea!
  • Rita says Candice sends her emails on her own time, talking about what is happening with her client. Excellent Communication!
  • Helen added that she can send Candice anywhere and that you are dependable. You work outside your availability on weekends to accommodate your coworkers and client, taking on extra work when needed.
  • At Home Instead we admire your professional demeanor which you display through being highly observant, respectful. You show confidence, are gentle yet assertive.  You demonstrate maturity and adaptability.
  • Overall we admire your gentle calming presence and can imagine how great that makes your clients feel each day.

Thank you for being a wonderful representative of Home Instead and congratulations on being named CAREGiver of the month March 2021.
