Happy, loving daughter hugging mom

Mom, moeder, mère, mother, madre, okaasan, mamma, mᾶe, mutter, majka, ahm…. No matter which way you say it, mothers from all over the globe are beyond spectacular and we at Home Instead Senior Care would like to wish all of you, on Sunday May 8th, a HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! Of course we appreciate our moms every single day of the year but when Mother’s Day comes around it just makes sense to try to do something extra special for her. She will love to see how much you truly appreciate everything she has done for you.

If you haven’t already figured out what you’re going to do with your mom this Sunday then please don’t stress, we have you covered! Below we’ve listed some great ideas for giving to, or experiencing with, your mom! has a lot of past articles with timeless ideas, put together with Mom’s that have Alzheimer’s or other dementias in mind. You can check that out here or visit the Alzheimer’s store here for other ideas.

Make her something sentimental

  • If your mom is big on coffee or tea, you could design and paint her a new mug so she’ll think of you each and every morning. You can pick up a mug from the dollar store and see blogger Stacy’s tips and tricks for making your design stick!
  • How about printing off a photo of the family together and making a custom frame for her? Local craft stores have tons of lettering so you hot-glue “I  MOM”. The dollar store has tons of great, affordable frames.

Feed her sweet tooth with delicious treats from Bake Sale

  • Bake Sale is a local Etobicoke bakery, situated just a few doors down from the Shoppers Drugmart in Six Points Plaza (5230 Dundas St. West). These bakers whip up absolutely delectable goodies! Check out their website for details, or pop into their shop!

Style her by picking up a new outfit or accessory

  • Cloverdale Mall, Sherway Gardens and Square One have a wide range of boutiques for you to peruse, or the possibilities are endless when you shop online. Etsy is a great way to support local artists and get one-of-a-kind gifts.
  • How about something that will make her feel glamorous? She could wear it on special occasions; like a new handbag, a dress, or some jewelry.

Help her with her hobby

    • Does your mom knit? There is a fantastic “birdie” yarn bowl that you could order online from the uncommongoods website
    • Is she creative at all? Go to a craft shop and put together a goodie-box for her. If you use a decorative wicker basket to present to her, she can also use that for something else! Consider some blank canvas, paint, and a few brushes or an empty scrapbook, stickers, stamps and glue!

Give your mom the VIP treatment at Cineplex Queensway Theatre

    • You could share some laughs and (maybe) a couple tears as you watch the comedy-drama, Mother’s Day, starring Julia Roberts, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Aniston, and Jason Sudeikis. This was just released to theatres on April 29th
      • Watch the trailer here:
    • Laughs are not the only thing you could share! At VIP Theatres, you get to reserve your own comfy loveseat and have the option to share appetizers or full meals while you watch your flick! Don’t worry, VIP still has popcorn too.
