January 2022 CAREGiver of the Month - Cyndi Gonzales

We are pleased to announce Cyndi Gonzales as the fourth recipient of Home Instead Markham’s CAREGiver of the Month award for January 2022.

Cyndi has been employed by our office since October 2021 which was only a few weeks after she moved to Canada from the Philippines. She is a Registered Nurse who practiced in the operating room and is currently in school for Nursing Leadership and Management, both of which will help her achieve her goal of working as a Canadian RN. Cyndi loves hiking and being outdoors, but she also enjoys watching movies and tv series (especially during her first Canadian winter). She has recently become a proud BTS music fan too.

Cyndi has an extremely warm personality and cares very deeply for others. Healthcare is her passion and she is always of the mindset to “treat her clients/patients how you would want your own family to be treated”. Upon arriving in Canada, she wanted to find a challenging job within her field of study and she decided that working with the elderly was her best choice to do this. Home Instead is the first organization that she has worked for since coming to the country and she feels very grateful of the team environment that our organization provides. She thinks of her Home Instead colleagues as family (as do we with her) and she says that being a part of Home Instead has made her adjustment in moving to a new country alone much easier.

Several of our clients have been cared for by Cyndi as she often steps up to take on assignments with the new senior clients that require services from us. She has felt very welcomed by the clients in their homes and has experienced such kindness from their family members too. Cyndi has spent a lot of time and has built a solid relationship with her first client who taught Cyndi a new skill: how to play the card game “Go Fish”. They also watch the TV series “Murder, She Wrote” together.

Cyndi is beyond dedicated and committed to her job. She once walked in a huge snowstorm in -30 degree weather from the bus stop to a client’s house (Welcome to Canada Cyndi)! This speaks volumes about Cyndi’s compassion and empathy. She is extremely reliable (always early for her shifts) and takes so much pride in her work. We are so lucky to have met Cyndi and have her on our team. Thanks for all that you do Cyndi and congratulations on this well-deserved award!
