Care Professional of the Month – March

We are thrilled to announce that Emilyn Tangonan is the recipient of the Home Instead Markham Care Professional of the Month award for March 2023.

Emilyn has been an integral part of the Home Instead family for nearly a year, and her dedication to her clients is truly remarkable. As one of our few caregivers who work the overnight shifts, Emilyn demonstrates remarkable resilience, sharp-wittedness, and compassion to every client she works with. Despite facing some challenging clients, she values every opportunity to advance her career and consistently shows a willingness to learn and grow as a PSW.

Emilyn's eagerness to help those in need is truly exceptional. She is always quick to cover last-minute shifts and goes above and beyond to assist anyone who requires her support. We are fortunate to have Emilyn as part of our team, and we are excited to see what she accomplishes next as we work together to change the face of aging.

Originally from Isabela, Philippines, Emilyn immigrated to Ontario, Canada. She is a devoted mother of two children and now has five grandchildren. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her loved ones, especially taking care of her grandchildren, and playing with them. Before joining Home Instead, Emilyn worked as an office employee at the Senior Citizen Association for over 17 years. During her time at the Senior Citizen Association, she gained valuable insights into the specialized care required to assist seniors with their daily tasks. Although she was not doing hands-on work at this job, her colleagues shared their experiences caring for seniors, which prepared her to excel as a caregiver for all the clients she currently supports.

One of Emilyn's favorite aspects of being a PSW is the unexpected challenges she may encounter when taking on a new client. Whether the client is in end-of-life care or has Alzheimer's, she views every challenge as an opportunity to gain new skills that can help her future clients. Emilyn takes great satisfaction in providing relief and support not only to the client but also to their family during extremely difficult times. She has gained valuable skills from her time assisting clients, including administering medications and quick thinking.

In conclusion, we are grateful for everything Emilyn has done for us, and we appreciate her selfless dedication to her clients. Congratulations, Emilyn, on this well-deserved award!
